A plan before the first load of soil arrives
Most gardens are built in pieces, years apart. A wall goes in one summer, paving the next, and the planting happens whenever there is money left. That is how you end up with a path that goes nowhere and a lawn shaped like whatever was left over.
A plan fixes the order. It sets the levels first, because everything else sits on them, then the structure, then the planting, and it tells you what has to happen now and what can wait two years without being torn up later.
The drawing is not the point. What you are paying for is the thinking behind it: where the sun actually lands in July, where the water goes when it rains hard, how you get a wheelbarrow to the back corner, and which plants will still be alive after a dry February.
A plan drawing, on paper or on a screen, next to or overlaid on the finished garden. This is the shot that proves the design and the build are the same people.

Do I have to have you build it?
No. You can take the plan and build it yourself, or in stages, or with someone else. Most people have us do it because the person who drew the levels is the person who has to make them work on the day.
